A neighborhood watch update (June 24, 2023):
The Boulevard Neighborhood Association aims for our neighborhood to be a welcoming and safe place for all. While this is not an official statement from the ACC Police Department, they offer the following advice regarding recent reports of theft and people who seem to be in distress:
Please remember that best practices to defer theft include locking up bicycles, picking up packages as soon as possible after delivery, and locking vehicles. If you are a victim of theft (even of minimal value) or vandalism, please file a police report, as this helps us to manage patrols.
If you observe suspicious or concerning activity, do not hesitate to call with a detailed description of what you have seen.
There have also been reports of people who seem to be in distress. Please call 911 and give a detailed description of your concerns. The police department has a Mental Health Unit and the dispatchers are trained to assess the situation and send support as needed. You can also call 911 and ask for a “welfare check” on a person you are worried about if you see something concerning but not necessarily a crime. Another option is to call the Georgia Crisis and Access Line (GCAL) at 1-800-715-4225. GCAL is available 24/7.
Important numbers:
Emergency: call 911
ACC non-emergency line: 706-613-3345
Georgia Crisis and Access Line: 1-800-715-4225
You will find crime trends and statistics for Athens-Clarke County on the ACC Police Department’s Public Transparency Page where information can be filtered by type of crime, date range, and area.
