Plant a tree, beautify the neighborhood
Trees add beauty and character to the Boulevard neighborhood. They also provide homes for pollinating insects, birds, and other animals. Unfortunately, we’ve lost a lot of trees in recent years to storms, disease, and development. A BNA tree committee—consisting of BNA Steering Committee members Jon Jefferson and Deb Stanley, plus neighborhood volunteers Thijs Kolet and Lauren Stubbs (a landscape architect) – with additional guidance from nursery owner Chris Aubry and members of a long running tree-planting committee in the Cobbham neighborhood – have spent the past year developing a plan. The BNA has contributed $1,000 to underwrite the program, and the Boulevard Gardening Club has generously donated $100.
Now, to add more trees—especially large canopy trees, which have the greatest environmental benefits—the Boulevard Neighborhood Association is offering a selection of popular trees, at deeply discounted prices, along with slow-watering “treegators.” And we’re organizing volunteer crews to plant the trees this fall!
The trees we’re offering, their sizes (most of them about head-high), and the discounted prices for each are listed below.
Trees can be planted anywhere in your yard: streetside, in your side yard, in the back—it’s all good!
To apply for a tree, gator, and planting assistance, email [email protected] and include the following information:
FIRST—to prioritize canopy trees—we will fill the first 20 requests for these large species.
SECOND, funding permitting, we will fill requests for up to 20 smaller, ornamental/understory trees.
We ask participants who receive a tree, gator and planting assistance to agree to:
